Using Fans and Dehumidifiers for Drying

A hardwood floor’s moisture content should be between 6% and 9%. Moisture levels can be controlled using fans and dehumidifiers.

Fans

  • Position fans to circulate air across the surface of the floor.
  • Ensure fans are placed at least 6 inches above the floor to avoid creating airflow that can damage the finish.
  • Keep fans running continuously until the moisture content of the floor reaches the desired level.

Dehumidifiers

  • Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air, which helps to dry the floor.
  • Place dehumidifiers in the center of the room and set them to a relative humidity of 45-50%.
  • Keep dehumidifiers running continuously until the moisture content of the floor reaches the desired level.
  • Monitor dehumidifiers regularly and empty the water reservoir as needed.

Additional Tips

  • Check the moisture content of the floor regularly using a moisture meter.
  • If the moisture content of the floor is too high, increase the airflow or decrease the humidity.
  • If the moisture content of the floor is too low, decrease the airflow or increase the humidity.
  • Allow the floor to acclimate to the new environment for several weeks before installing furniture or walking on it.
